President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has been ruling Algeria for 20 years. A presidential statement has also said that Bouteflika will step down from power after confirming that state’s institutions are running. Earlier, mass protests held in the country demanding for his resignation. The situation compelled the president to drop out his plans of contesting elections for the fifth term.
However, it’s still unclear when he will quit. Many Algerians think that Bouteflika’s health has declined now and he didn’t want to leave as some highly influential people didn’t want to end their influence on society. Algerians are not only demanding the resignation of President but also they want to get rid of all political leaders of Algeria. Most of the protesters included the young generation who want a new system of government.
Earlier, Algeria’s Army Chief of Staff, Lt Gen Ahmed Gaed Salah declared the president unfit to rule.
The latest statement came after the announcement from the presidency about the establishment of a new cabinet of 27 ministers. Newly selected Prime Minister Noureddine Bedoui will lead the new cabinet. However, Ahmed Gaid Salah will keep serving as army chief of staff and deputy defense minister.
