George Oduro, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced to end tomato importation in 2019; ministry is also planning to reduce the rice importation by 50%. He said Government of Ghana is keen to significantly reduce the import of food items.
Ministry of Food and Agriculture is targeting to stop rice importation by reducing it to 50 percent. Gradually we will produce products by ourselves.
George Oduro said, the ministry is struggling to expand the irrigation projects and it is introducing mechanization for increasing production. The deputy minister was speaking to the Integrity magazine’s breakfast meeting with the theme of ‘Opportunities for Ghana Israel Business Cooperation in Agriculture Innovation and Technology.’
There were stakeholders present there in the meeting to discuss the contribution of the agriculture sector in the increase for the national economy.
Israeli Ambassador to Ghana Shani Cooper said while speaking to the meeting that, the government of Israel will never stop investing in Agric sector of Ghana.
In the meantime, Reverend Kenedy Okosun, CEO of Integrity Magazine organizers of the event, said developing the Agric sector is essential to the development of the nation.
Israeli Ambassador to Ghana said, we are working to attract investors from our country to Ghana, their investment will boost the agriculture sector for Ghana and Israel as well.
