A national strike, called by three major trade unions, has triggered the cancellation of all in-and-out flights of Belgium.
Substantial roadblocks around the airport led to the cancellation of all Belgium flights.
Belgium air traffic control announced that the cancellation order will run for 24 hours which started from Tuesday night.
Air traffic agency, Skeyes said that they made the decision as they have no guarantee about the number of staff available for work. The only solution to the issue is to not allow air traffic.
The agency further added that they have to ensure safety. However, considering the great uncertainty about the profession of some crucial posts, they canceled the flights. The workers didn’t inform about their unavailability in advance during a strike.
Some airports had already closed their flights as they have had no alternative. A spokesperson from the Brussels South Airport explained that we know about the strike which will cause substantial roadblocks around the airport and will further affect the air traffic.
A disagreement over wage growth, limited to 0.8% for the next two years, has triggered the national strikes.
