Ghanaian actress, Ama K. Abebrese
Ama K Abebrese has recommended that corrective measures must be taken against organizations who mocked the Food and Drug Authority’s (FDA) controls on skin bleaching items.
The ‘Sinking Sands’ actress, who has been battling against skin bleaching, said in a recent TV interview on Tuesday that the officials must make the law work so as to fill in a hindrance to other people.
The FDA, in a press release recently, disclosed a list of 41 destructive cosmetic items on the Ghanaian market. It cautioned the general population against utilizing the items, which it said contain destructive substances, including mercury, hydroquinone, and steroids.
The FDA, in this manner, coordinated the makers of the dangerous items to retract them from the market with prompt impact.
The order was issued after inquiring on the Ghanaian market uncovered that the cosmetic items contain some unsafe substances which damage the Standards Authority Act, 1973 (N.R.C.D.1 173), just as Sections 111 (c) and 113 (b) of the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851.
Among the items is Zoe Peau Sublime Beauty Lotion, Zoe Peau Sublime Face Corrective Cream and Beauty Clinic Whitening Lotion, all by IVO Ghana Limited, Dodo Beauty Lightening Lotion by Magic Dodo Limited, Bioskin Lightening Body Lotion by Paradise Cosmetics Limited, among others.
In the announcement signed by its Head of Communications and Public Education Department, James Lartey, he said the organizations whose items “contain these substances (mercury, hydroquinone, and steroids) have been coordinated to start a prompt recall of their items from the market as they represent a potential health risk.”
He didn’t express any correctional measures which would be taken against those organizations.
However, as indicated by Sections 111 (c) of the Public Health Act, 2012, Act 851, ” A person commits an offense if that person sells a drug, herbal medicinal product, cosmetic, medical device or household chemical substance which is adulterated.”
Ama K, who complimented the FDA for cautioning people in general about unsafe items, contended that there is a need to rebuff the organizations included.
“I think this is an incredible activity with respect to the FDA. They are making the general population mindful of these destructive items that are promptly sold the nation over.
My question is; since these organizations and their hurtful items have been featured what sanctions if at all will these organizations look for moving or appropriating these items in the nation,” she said.
“I do feel that there ought to be repercussions on these organizations as they are violating the law to the extent Ghana’s prohibition on skin bleaching ingredients like hydroquinone. The law should deal with this,” she included.
