Anti Uber strike Spain
A spokesperson for Madrid’s La Paz hospital Spain said a taxi driver is in very serious condition after he was seriously injured in a car accident that occurred while he engaged in protests against ride-hailing services such as Uber in Madrid.
Emergency services in Madrid tweeted that the man suffered a brain injury.
Spanish media broadcasted the footage which showed the taxi driver, wearing a yellow vest like anti-government protesters in France, jump onto the bonnet of a black vehicle surrounded by demonstrators.
As the vehicle lowered its speed, chased by protesters, he fell heavily onto the road.
The driver of the vehicle involved in Tuesday’s accident turned himself in and was questioned before being released, the Civil Guard police force said.
Incident happened when the taxi drivers protested and blocked a highway on Tuesday afternoon when increasing tensions between these and ride-hailing services such as Cabify, also known as VTCs (Tourism Vehicles with Chauffeur) and Uber.
Spanish taxi drivers complain that competitor drivers from other apps contend illegally since they do not face the same regulations and costs at the same time.
On Monday, In Madrid the drivers started a hazy strike to protest competition from VTCs, after their colleagues in Barcelona who started striking on Friday.
