Four suspected militants have attacked a DusitD2 complex, consisted of a luxury hotel, offices, and restaurants, in Nairobi.
Militants attacked the DusitD2 complex at about 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT).
At least seven people have reported dead till now while 10 more sustained injuries. Local authorities fear that the death toll could rise.
Law enforcement forces were trying to regain the control of the complex after Islamist extremist gunmen assault. There were sounds of explosions and gunfire in the compound in the Westlands district of the capital city.
The Somalia-based militant group al-Shabab has accepted the responsibility of the attack but didn’t provide any details. Armed forces accompanied people to move out from the site, with most of them led out covered in blood.
Militants attacked the complex at about 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT). According to a woman, she heard gunshots sounds and saw people started running out of building raising their hands up. She also heard blasts, vehicles set on fire in parking and a plume of smoke appeared above the compound.
One police officer commented at the situation that: “Things are not good. People are dying”.Kenyan Police Chief Joseph Boinnet briefed that we have surrounded the armed criminals in the hotel and special forces are currently trying to get them out.
