Baked food in Europe
The Europe bans many food preservatives that are still used in the US in bread, cookies and soft drinks. These food additives actually cause cancer. European Union also bans several drugs that are being used in the farm animals in the US. Most of the genetically modified food is being ban in the Europe also.
Lisa Y. Lefferts, senior scientist at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a food safety advocacy organization said, food-processing companies will reformulate a food product for sale in Europe” but continue to sell the product with the additives in the United States in some cases.
An agency spokeswoman said despite being prohibited by the A 1958 amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, the Food and Drug Administration from approving food additives that are associated with the cancer, many substances are considered to have had prior approval and “therefore are not regulated as food additives.
These additives are commonly added to baked goods, but neither is required, and both are banned in Europe because they may cause cancer. In recent years, some American restaurant chains have responded to consumer pressure and removed them from their food.
Center for Science in the Public Interest and other organizations filed a lawsuit in October this year, according to that the FDA agreed to ban 6 artificial flavoring substance shown to cause cancer in the animals.
Potassium bromade and azodicarbonamide (ADA) are used to baked products are also banned in European Union because they may cause cancers. In America, some restaurant chains have responded to consumer pressure and removed them from their food
