The murder of a 26-year-old female has sparked anger over Spain’s legislation and gender violence.

Laura Luelmo had come from the north-western city of Zamora
The current high-profile case has triggered the demonstrations in the country. Searching teams also found Laura Luelmo’s dead body near the El Campillo after five days of the searching.
Laura Luelmo had traveled 500km (310 miles) for her first full-time job. Police is investigating the cause of the murder.
A same type of case also made the headlines earlier this year when five men alleged for gang raping of an 18-year-old woman in the San Fermín bull-running festival in July 2016.
The men were cleared of the rape and imprisoned on a lesser offense of sexual abuse. But, the judge’s decision sparked protests and a debate over the country’s law and gender violence.
Moreover, Ms. Luemo had come from the north-western city of Zamora. She went missing on the last Wednesday which triggered a search involving more than 200 volunteers and officials.
The officials consider that she went out for a walk or run as they did not discover her sports gear, smartphone, and purse.
Rescue teams found her body in bushes outside El Campillo with signs of sexual violence. The signs indicated that she tried to defend herself and marks on her neck showed death by strangulation. The victim’s parents informed about her disappearance after she didn’t answer their calls.
In response to the murder, Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister and the Equality Minister Carmen Calvo further stated that the: “Women have to pay cruel and extremely high prices for our freedom and security.”
