Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako
Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has been vociferous on the issue as far back as he demonstrated he is planning to send the case to the Preeminent Court for clarifications.
In exclusive interview, the NPP Executive expressed that his fundamental comprehension of Article 66 as contained in the Constitution sets previous President Mahama in a place that makes his future presidential aspiration darken.
‘Mahama’s presidential ambition has been killed and buried by several articles in the 1992 Constitution. Since he rode on the ticket of the NDC to be President, he must know that he has completed his tenure as stipulated in the Constitution and cannot come back for re-election on the ticket of the same party.’
Mr. Antwi-Boasiako famously known as Executive Wontumi further clarified that the matter of previous President Mahama even gets convoluted with the conditions contained in Article 68 of the Constitution.
As per him, the previous President is presently getting a charge out of the retirement benefits concurred to all living previous Presidents, and therefore, can’t exploit the condition realizing exceptionally well it doesn’t bolster his future presidential desire.
Referring to article 68 (3) and (4), Executive Wontumi noticed that the tip previous President Mahama has brought home as endorsed by Parliament cannot be underestimated.
‘Mahama can’t eat his cake and have it back. The rule doesn’t allow him to do that. If he is now a former President, he must accept that position in humility.’
Article 68 (3) and (4) individually expresses that:
(3) The President will get such compensation, stipends and offices as might be endorsed by Parliament on the proposals of the board of trustees alluded to in article 71 of this Constitution. (4) On leaving office, the President will get a tip notwithstanding annuity, comparable to his compensation and different recompenses and offices recommended by Parliament as per condition (3) of this article.
