President Moon Jae-in has said that Kim Jong-un wants to hold a second summit with Donald Trump to accelerate denuclearization.
North Korea’s Kim wishes to speed-up denuclearization
The South Korean president has recently ended his three-day trip to North Korea. After a high-profile tour, the South Korean president reached Seoul on Thursday. It was the first tour by a Southern leader to Pyongyang.
Mr. Moon said on his return that: “Kim Jong-un expressed his wish that he wanted to complete denuclearisation quickly and focus on economic development. He said he hoped Mike Pompeo would visit North Korea soon, and also a second summit with Trump would take place in the near future, in order to move the denuclearisation process along quickly.”
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the US is ready to restart talks with Pyongyang to denuclearise North Korea till 2021.
Earlier this week, Mr. Kim also decided to close down main missile testing and launch sites of the country at Tongchang-ri.
Moon further revealed that Kim is also ready to open the inspection of a nuclear test site in Punggye-ri. According to him, it is North’s only existing facility for underground detonations.
Earlier, Pyongyang has ended nuclear and missile tests, but it didn’t allow international inspections of dismantling sites. This action stirred huge criticism that the move could retreat.
