Koku Ayindoho, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP government for playing politics with the Electoral Commission.
According to him,the current situation is questionable. His comments follow the removal of former Electoral Commissioner Charlotte Osei and nomination of Jean Mensa as the new Chairperson.
The NDC Deputy General Secretary further stated that NDC has disappointed with how President has held issues surrounding Electoral Commission.
According to him, the government has done well in using all kinds of backdoor tactics to walk in Jean Mensa as the new Commissioner. It also gets Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwah out of office for purpose.
Mr. Anyidoho was speaking to the media while he made these remarks. There is also no way Jean Mensa can say she is not a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“Already there are questions marks hanging around Jean as far as the NDC is concerned,” he further stated.
“I feel sorry for her because of the circumstances under which she is getting this appointment because it makes it impossible for to walk away from the red, white and blue colors of the NPP”
“The NPP has pushed Jean Mensa into and NPP rat hole and it will be difficult for her to get out, and she cannot run away from it for as long as it was Nana Addo who appointed her in these very shady, dodgy and …circumstance.”
He also noted that there is no way NPP can convince anyone of not playing politics with the Electoral Commission.
Considering the position the NDC took against Jean Mensah, the president should not have appointed her as new EC boss. There is a call for a neutral person as Electoral Commissioner.
