People across many major towns and cities in the US have counseled to gather under the slogan #familiesbelongtogether over the Trump administration’s strict migrant policy. Tens of thousands of people have expected to join nationwide protests.
More than 630 events have planned to call for migrant families break up at the US border to be reunited. Regardless of President Donald Trump’s executive order ending the controversial policy, around 2,000 children still remain separated from their parents.
He surrenders to public pressure after weeks of domestic and international violence. President Trump promised to ‘keep families together’ in migrant detention centers.
But, according to critics, the order did not address the issue of families already separated. Around 2,342 children have taken away from their parents between 5 May and 9 June alone. A judge in California also ordered earlier this week that the families should reunite within 30 days.
People across many major towns and cities in the US want to send a message to President Trump. They fear that he will go back on his executive order.
“We cannot slow down now since the court ruling alone isn’t enough and could be overturned”
In addition to reuniting parents with their children, organizers are calling for termination to immigrant detention. They want that families should keep together. Also, they plan to voice opposition to President Trump’s travel ban targeting five majority-Muslim nations.
Much of the chaos over the separation policy arose after news organizations described children held in cells, converted warehouses, and desert tents.
