Textile workers protest against unfair competition
The Textile, Garment and Leather Employees Union (TGLEU) has protested against all the fake promises that the government has been making since many years. It all happened because, last week Alan Kyerematen declared that government would finally released the long awaited packages to the administration of the textile industries.
Moreover, he also said that government will take serious actions against pirated textiles by sending special forces. Alan Kyerematen has set September 1st, 2018 for government to actualize the measures. However, on the other hand, TGLEU portrayed the ongoing measures reported by the Minister for Trade and Industry to manage the deluge of pirated textiles as fake promises government has reliably reneged on.
While speaking exclusively at a conference in Accra, General Secretary of the TGLEU, Abraham Koomson said, “These are recycled promises. They have promised these over and over again. But they have not fulfilled them. So we are not overly excited about the said promises. If the workers don’t sustain the pressure they will wait till 2020 when elections will be held then they will do something. I am not very sure that the Minister Hon Alan Kyerematen is committed to what he has put out there”.
