After a deal with United Nations refugee agency, Israel has cancelled its plans to deport the migrants at once to Africa.
Most of the African migrants in Israel came from Eritrea and war-torn Sudan.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said that almost 16,000 asylum seekers will shift in unspecified Western countries. However, around 18,000 leftover will get permanent residency in Israel.
Israel’s Supreme Court had stopped deportations meant to start on Sunday. Israeli activists and sparked protests condemned the plan to direct migrants to African countries like Uganda and Rwanda.
Mr Netanyahu’s office called the agreement unprecedented which will take further a five-year period for implementation.
A statement said: “These understandings will allow the removal of more migrants from Israel than in the previous plan, and under UN and the international community’s auspices”.
Most of the Africans belong from Eritrea and war-torn Sudan. According to them, they fled danger at home and still, it will not safe to return. Most of migrants entered from Egypt several years back, before a new fence built beside the desert border. It has ended most illegal trips.
