Thousands Palestinians in Gaza have marched towards the Israel border and rolling burning tires and hurling stones at the security fence and at IDF troops as the six-week-long protest is going to start. They have sloped five camps near the border for the protest, called the Great March of Return.
The Great March of Return protests starting today and will scheduled to end on 15 May.
According to Palestinian health ministry, at least seven people have died and 350 injured, mostly with Israeli gunfire.
The Israeli military confirmed the riots at six places. The Palestinian protesters have demanded to allow refugees to return to homes which are now in Israel.
According to Israel Defense Forces (IDF), almost 17,000 Palestinians are there in five locations along the border fence.
The IDF further informed that the troops were firing towards the main instigators to break up rampaging. It included the burning of tyres and the throwing of Molotov cocktails and stones towards fence.
The IDF had enforced a closed military zone in surrounding area of Gaza. Palestinian health officials confirmed that a 16-year-old boy also among the dead.
They further reported that one person killed before Friday’s protest happening. Israeli tank fire killed a 27-year-old farmer, Omar Samour near Khan Yunis.
Hamas has alleged Israel of trying to threaten Palestinians by killing the farmer and by commending them not to participate in the protests.
While speaking to protesters, Hamas senior political leader Ismail Haniyeh intended: “we will not concede a single inch of the land of Palestine”.
He further added: “There is no alternative to Palestine and no solution except to return.”
The Israeli military has doubled its troop presence for the protest at border. It fears the protest could prove an attempt at a mass breach.
Israeli commander Maj Gen Eyal Zamir stated: “We are identifying attempts to carry out terror attacks under the camouflage of riots. We urge citizens to stay away and warn the Hamas terror organisation, which is responsible for the violent riots and everything taking places under its auspices.”
An Israeli military spokesman further said on tank fire incident: “two suspects approached the security fence and began operating suspiciously and the tank fired towards them”.
Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman also tweeted in Arabic. He accused Hamas for playing with citizens’ lives and warning people not to participate.
The Great March of Return protests are starting on Friday and will scheduled to end on 15 May.
