Taliban attackers storm the Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul with explosives laden ambulance into street only opened for government workers. As a result, 95 people killed while 158 others injured in centre of capital.
The site of attack is presenting a scene of devastation
The suicide bombing occurred near the old interior ministry building and offices of European Union and High Peace Council.
The Taliban claimed the responsibility of recent deadliest attack of the month. Earlier, Taliban militants killed 22 people a week ago in a luxury Kabul hotel.
According to witnesses, the area was fully packed with people when bomb exploded at about 12:15 local time (08:45 GMT) on Saturday. The site includes the home to foreign embassies, the police headquarters and shopping zone, Chicken Street.
MP Mirwais Yasini told that he was having lunch just meters away, when the blast happened.
“First of all we thought it was inside our house,” he said. Then, he went outside and saw bodies scattered everywhere. “It is very, very inhumane.”
Another observer expressed “I saw a huge flame. The smoke was pungent. It entered my eyes and I was not able to see for some time.”
He further added that he found the dead bodies like a brutal graveyard. He called it a terrible moment as it completely destroyed the whole area.
The International Committee of the Red Cross called the use of an ambulance as harrowing act. The recent attack is the deadliest attack in Kabul in several months.
In October, 176 people lost their lives in bomb attacks across Afghanistan in one week while in May, 150 people killed in suicide bombing attack in Kabul.
