At-least twelve people have killed in twin attacks on Coptic Christians in south of Cairo, Egypt. In first attack, gunmen tried to attack on a church south of Cairo but, police intercepted there. However, 10 people killed in this situation.
It took place when police patrolling the Mar Mina Church found two men behaving suspiciously.They moved the men who started firing.The ten dead also included at least three police officers.
Police has also found explosives belt on the dead assailant that safely defused. It is an indication of more deadly attack plan. The other gunman later arrested with weapons, ammunition and a bomb.
The next attack occurred about an hour later wherein a Coptic-owned shop in the same area attacked, leaving two dead.
In past years, more than 100 Christians have killed in Egypt. Most of the attacks claimed to have conducted by local branch of the so-called Islamic State group.
In response to the attacks, security forces have set-up checkpoints in place around the capital.
Earlier this week, they announced plans to protect festivities around New Year and on 7 January, Coptic Christmas.
