The Xbox One and Xbox One X are too much different regarding their hardware, and the extent that how much accomplished they are at doing what they planned to do. But for the time being, the full extent of Xbox One X’s capabilities may be constrained somewhat- if only as these are early days, and for the reason that games that hit, it also has to run on the very much weaker Xbox One and Xbox One S.
Though, with the passage of time, the difference in the quality of software on the Xbox One and Xbox One X should just become more obvious- this is something which Tale Paul Bettner stated in an interview.
Bettner stated that he thinks that there will be developers that push the Xbox One X much further than they have. He added that he means to say that they are one of the very first to get the dev kit and they are one of the first games getting transported natively on this device, but all the time it is the case that one more time more people get to have the hardware and have worked with it for more time that they begin squeezing even much more performance out of it, and so the gap between the two devices is perhaps going to grow with time. The Xbox One, at the moment, is a very much understood piece of hardware that has many optimizations and that work has already been done, but for the Xbox One X, that is only a beginning.
It seems quite sensible- you get to have more out of hardware the more you know about it, and this is a fact that you can only learn about it with time. We have to believe that Microsoft will sooner or later finish this order that all Xbox One X games have to run on Xbox One, also- perhaps several years down the line- which will furthermore leave developers free to power the Xbox One completely. It will be quite interesting to see the point where things end on the system as time passes, certainly.
