Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic Boss hailed the versatility of two-goal James Forrest after Celtic’s 4-0 League Cup win over Dundee at Dens Park.
He notched his 1st by converting a Kieran Tierney cross 3 minutes before the interval, supplementing Scott Sinclair’s penalty-kick open. Callum McGregor drove in a 3rd with 2 minutes remaining before Forrest scored his 2nd in added time to take his tally for the season to 7. Moreover, this goal led the treble-winners book their place in the semi-final draw.
Rodgers said: “He is really improving his numbers, that’s what his job is. Firstly, defensively he is working very hard in his pressing and tactical idea of the game. He has great quality in both feet, his first goal, he comes on the inside and finishes really well and the second one he moves in off the line, Odsonne (Eduard) plays him a nice little pass early and he works his feet and gets his shot off.
“So two very good goals and a very good performance by him. It was very good, very professional and we played with a nice calmness. Dundee had good organisation and we had to be patient but once we got the first goal, we gained that confidence in the game and we passed and pressed very well, disrupted their game and scored very good goals.”
Neil McCann said: “The boys put in a shift and worked for each other. In the latter stages I pushed it and went three up top, and Celtic pounced on us. They can change shape and personnel readily with equal quality. We don’t have that luxury, like the rest of Scotland. Tonight, it wasn’t us, maybe somebody at the weekend.”
Rodgers said, “Every game is tough in a different way. We’ll go there and look forward to it.
“I expect a tough game, I look at Rangers and they have brought one or two men into the team. Bruno Alves, big experience, and Graham Dorrans, who I have always liked and tried to sign when I was at Swansea and he was at West Brom.
“They’ve got some good players and the boy up front [Alfredo Morelos] has started his career well, scoring goals. So, they’ll want to do better than last year, for us we go with the same notion, which is to play well, work very hard and look to win the game.”
