Former President Jerry Rawlings arrived in capital of the Upper West region with a courtesy call on the Wa Paramount Chief for his planned June 4 celebrations.
The June 4 celebration will held under the theme, ‘RESTORING THE VALUES OF PROBITY, ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRUTH IN CONTEMPORARY GOVERNANCE’.
The retired Flight Lieutenant was at the palace of Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV on Saturday, June 3 with a purpose to formally inform the Wa Na about June 4 celebrations. Party’s regional management including Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo Alban Bagbin was also accompanied him.
While speaking to the chief and his elders, Mr Rawlings expressed grief over the recent state of lawlessness in the country and laid the blame on successive governments. According to him this culture of impunity would stop if succeeding governments had managed the issues of lawlessness.
He also stated that the recent execution of army captain, Maxwell Adam Mahama takes the issue to the front. However, he expressed confidence that government will sort out the solution of the issue and other related ones properly.
Guli Naa Seidu Braimah presided over the Waala Traditional Area on behalf of the Paramount Chief. Moreover, he expressed concern over current situation of impunity among the youth. He further requested Mr Rawlings to find solution of the problem with the help chiefs, religious leaders and government. Former president was also awarded a chieftaincy title.
