Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has said, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) losses Transmission that is need to be shortened in order to make the power distribution company competent and cost-effective.
Therefore, he has charged ECG and all relevant stakeholders to institute the right measures to overturn the trend.
Mr Agyarko was speaking on the 2nd day of the National Policy Summit in Accra on Tuesday May 16, bemoaned the amount of power that goes to waste.
Mr Agyarko noted 21 % of power supply to ECG is lost. Every percentage point of power lost is equivalent to GHS60million.
Mr Agyarko said that even though, technical transmission losses were inevitable, he identified that a loss of 21 % of power to be sold to consumers makes the company unsuccessful. Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko was not inspired about the “significant” quantum of losses by other Independent Power Producers (IPPs) that load unto the national grid for clients.
