French Officials revealed that their forces has killed 20 militants in a forest near Mali-Burkina Faso border.
France has sent 4,000 soldiers in Mali to fight against extremists
The statement from Regional force, said that both air and ground forces took part in operation but didn’t recognize militant group. Earlier this month, a French soldier was killed in the area.
Despite of a French military operation in 2013 to drive jihadists, still, Mali undergoes many attacks by Islamist militants.
According to French military spokesman, they targeted the militants at Foulsare forest, in the south-west of Gao province.
Moreover, Mali’s National Assembly voted on Saturday to prolong a state of emergency by six months to control an increase in attacks. This situation has also triggered violence in neighboring Burkina Faso.
Officials believed that a new Islamist militant group was using the Foulsare Forest for launching their attacks in different place.
Earlier in December, At-least 12 soldiers lost their lives in an attack by militants near Burkina Faso-Mali border. While in January 2016, almost 29 people, including foreigners, died in a hotel attack in capital Ouagadougou.
However, former colonial power in Mali, France has sent 4,000 soldiers in region to fight against the extremists.
