Goji berries are often promoted as a super food. it has various health benefits; it has gained popularity in the recent years. It is known to improve blood sugar control, combat heart problems, fight off cancer and boost immune system.

Rich source of antioxidants:
Goji berries are very rich in antioxidants; antioxidants protect against the harmful effects of free radicals that can damage the cells.
The goji berries have a high Oxidant radical absorbent capacity score of goji berries is around 3292, w which is much higher than OCAR of bananas which is only 795 and apples 2828. The OCAR values of fruits were determined in two test tube studies so these fruits might not have the similar effects on the human body.
In one study, the antioxidant markers increased by 8% in 50 healthy individuals who drank 4ounces of goji berry juice day compared to those who did not drink it. This is a good thing because the antioxidants present in the diet is essential for protecting against chronic diseases.
Have antiaging benefits:
As mentioned above, goji berries are rich in antioxidants, which slow down the process of aging, the antioxidants in the berries protect the collagen in the skin from damage , which helps keep the skin firm and from wrinkling.
Studies show that goji berries have antiaging properties. It inhibits the process of glycation which promotes aging, consuming fruits high in antioxidants, protect from futureaging, these primilinary investigations are promising but more studies are needed before further conclusions can be drawn.
May combat cancer:
Goji berries may have the ability to fight cancer, given its rich antioxidant content. Goji berry has been associated to anticancer properties in both human and animal studies.
One rat study found that diet rich in goji berry helped prevent the progression of cancer or tumour. other berries like strawberries, blueberries and raspberries etc. have the similar effect. Research shows that goji berries extract hinders the growth of cancer and tumour and even destroys it.
The anticancer properties of goji berries are believed to come from its antioxidants content and its ability to reduce the markers of inflammation. however, keep in mind that most of the studies conducted use very concentrated forms of goji berries and not the fresh fruit itself, so more studies are needed in this regard.
Better blood sugar control:
Studies on animals and test-tube studies show that goji berries are good for better blood sugar control. One study in rats with type2diabetes showed that the blood sugar levels dropped in about 35% of the rats, in just 4 weeks.
Another study found similar results, in which rats with type2 diabetes had decreased blood sugar levels and increased insulin sensitivity in just 3 weeks after eating goji berry extract. Studies have found that the high antioxidant capacity of goji berry is responsible for this effect.
However, these studies are limited to animals and therefore it is not known if it will have the same effect on humans as well, therefore more studies on humans are needed.
