AFCON 2017 ended almost a month back. The Black Stars finished 4th in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations. However, the technical team has not yet been remunerated for their services.
Gerard Nus, who has plied his trade all over the world played the role of Grant’s right-hand. The 32-year old has expressed discontent over the delay in the payment of his bonuses. Gerard and physical trainer Jamie Lawrence were hired in a short-term basis for the AFCON and they both did their best to ensure Black Stars reached the semi-finals.
Nus has been in Accra since and has been waiting for the salary. The Spanish says, ”I am still here in Ghana because some [financial] terms [of my work have not been fulfilled]. When you work as a human being, you expect to be paid but unfortunately at this moment, I have not been paid for the AFCON.’’
He expressed he is looking forward to get it sorted out as soon as possible. Gerard added, ”Almost every day, I try to keep in touch with the president of the GFA (Kwesi Nyantakyi), the chairman of a Black Stars management committee (George Afriyie) and Alex Asante.’’
Gerard says that the authorities keep on saying that they are working on it and he wants to believe that they are doing all they can to resolve the situation. He added, ”Unfortunately, there’s not been anything happening. I have not seen anything yet. I trust in them; they are nice people, I know them very well but unfortunately, I’m still in Accra.”
