Exercise is defined as any movement that makes your muscles work and burn calories. There are many different kinds of exercises like swimming, dancing, running, cycling etc. Regular exercise is important for good health and has been linked to numerous health benefits. Given below are some of the health benefits of regular exercise and why you need it?
Lifts up your mood:
Exercise has been shown to lift up mood and reduce stress and feelings of depression. It produces changes in the part of brain that regulate stress and anxiety. It also increases brain’s sensitivity to the hormones serotonin and epinephrine, which are responsible for inducing feelings of happiness and relieving depression and stress. Moreover, exercise has been also shown to produce endorphins which produce positive feelings and reduce the feelings of pain. It has been seen that it does not matter how intense your exercise is, people benefit from it mentally anyway. In one study of 24 women with depression, working out at any intensity helped them significantly.
Strong muscles and bones:
Exercise helps in building of strong bones and muscles. Exercise helps in the building of muscles when it is paired with adequate protein levels. It is because exercise helps in release of hormones that aid muscles in absorbing the amino acids, which makes them grow and stop their break down. As you age, the muscles get weak and muscle loss increases which leads to increased risk of disability and injuries, to prevent that from happening, it is essential to work out and stay active. Exercise also helps build bone density, when done in younger years and it reduces the risk of osteoporosis later in life. Interestingly, high impact exercise like running and gymnastics or playing soccer and soccer have been seen to improve bone density more than low impact exercise like swimming and cycling.
Boost up energy levels:
Regular exercise can be a real energy booster. It can increase energy levels significantly. One study found that regular exercise for 6 weeks reduced feelings of fatigue in 36 healthy individuals who had complaint of constant fatigue. Additionally, exercise can reduce fatigue and increase energy levels in people suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome. In fact it was seen that exercise was more helpful in combating chronic fatigue syndrome CFS more than other treatments like stretching and relaxing therapy. What’s more, regular exercise has been shown to increase energy levels in people with progressive illnesses like cancer HIV AIDS or multiple sclerosis.
Combats chronic diseases:
Exercise is a great way to stay active and healthy. It can combat chronic diseases. Regular workout can improve insulin sensitivity, body composition, cardiovascular fitness, thereby lowering blood pressure and blood fat levels. In contrast being physically inactive and lack of regular exercise even for a short time can lead to increase in belly fat which can lead to type-2 diabetes heart disease and early death. Therefore, it is advised to perform regular exercise to reduce the risk of all these disease and maintain ideal weight and optimum health.
