According to media reports, Rebels in Cabinda have called on the people of Angola’s oil rich region to boycott parliamentary that are expected to be held in August.
Flec is a rebel outfit that has been for a long time trying to get independence for the exclave which is sandwiched between Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo.
Flec has stated it will not participate in a foreign election , the Flec does not accept in anyway the permanence of a foreign power on the territory, but at the same time also does not wants to come in between the affairs of Angola.
Last week, Angola’s President Jose Eduardo dos Santos, one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders, promised that he will step down as the President before elections.
Flec is an insurgent group that has been fighting a very low level insurgency since the 1960s, first against the Portugal & then this fight took turn towards the Angolan government.
According to media reports, Flec has further accelerated their activities since the demise of its 88 year old founder Nzita Tiago last June.
