The Anti-human trafficking Civil Society Organization, Challenging Heights, has saved some 18 trafficked children from the Lake Volta region.
The children, aged five between seventeen, before their release, served as child-slaves to fishermen on the lake.
Child trading in the fishing industry has been a problem for the Ghanaian government for many decades.
According to organization thousands of children are working and abusing in the Volta Lake.
Government of the Ghana passed the Human Trafficking law in 2005, making human trading a criminal offense, punishable by at least five years imprisonment.
The nation has over the last 2 years stagnated in the Trafficking in Persons report due to the little or no promise to the fight against human trading.
The eighteen rescued children are now going through rehabilitation at the organization’s rehabilitation center.
