Drug-resistant may be increasing across Africa
Doctors have revealed that drug-resistant forms of malaria may perhaps be evolving across Africa.
An important malaria treatment has failed earlier in Britain to cure four patients who infected after travelling to Uganda, Liberia and Angola.
Initially, they reacted well to an anti-malarial therapy (artemether-lumefantrine) but lapsed again a month later.
Tests on parasite samples that caused malaria further suggest it may be increasing resistance to combination drug.
According to Doctors this reveals anecdotal indication from African countries that treatment is failing and needs further study.
