The Algerian AFCON squad has failed to reach the quarter finals in the AFCON 2017 and has crashed out of the tournament at the group stage.
Their performance has been extraordinarily poor as the team didn’t win even a single game in Gabon. The Algerian team was held to a 2-2 draw by Senegal in a match they had to win to avoid an early and embarrassing exit from AFCON 2017.
Algeria was regarded as one of the favorites for the trophy but their performance in the tournament has badly affected their repute. In their group opening match against Zimbabwe they held the match draw and were beaten by neighbors Tunisia.
The worst thing is that they were compounded at the last match against Senegal’s second-string side, which was featuring 10 changes from their last game.
Aliou Cisse, the Senegal Coach had taken the opportunity to rest his first-choice players given the Teranga Lions had already won the group ahead of their final fixture. The Algerians might have signed off with a win but Slimani missed a chance to get a hat-trick.
On Saturday, the group B topper Senegal will play Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
