The Chelsea Star and the Black Stars player got a knee injury in his sides group opening match at AFCON 2017.
Following his injury, Baba Abdul Rahman was called back by his parent club to have further diagnosis and treatment. The tests in London have revealed that his injury is quite serious.
The defender’s anterior cruciate ligament of the knee has got torn and has even damaged the inner and outer meniscus. The tests were carried out on Sunday when the player reached London from Gabon.
The 22-year-old, who is on loan at German side Schalke, is now facing a long spell on the sidelines. The Schalke manager Christian Heidel, while speaking about the injury said, “It is a partial rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, the inner and outer meniscus are damaged.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) said, “The GFA will offer all the support to the dedicated and hardworking Baba Rahman on his road to recovery.’’ The player joined Chelsea in August 2015 from Augsburg for £21.7 million but failed to establish himself as a regular starter under Jose Mourinho or Guus Hiddink.
