Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, the Ghana’s women U-20 coach believes that Avram Grant has made the right choice in his final 23-man squad for the upcoming AFCON.
The selection of 19-year-old Schalke forward Bernard Tekpetey, who has only two senior club appearances, was really surprising.
Furthermore, two more previously uncapped players have been included. They include Sweden-based Ebenezer Ofori and Barnsley right-back Andy Yiadom. Against the expectations Abdul Majeed Waris, David Accam and Jeffrey Schlupp have been dropped from the squad.
The Ghana’s women U-20 coach says that this decision is the best decision. He added that the coach himself knows he has to do everything possible to succeed, everything to save his name. Moreover, Avram trained with the team and saw their individual specialty in the game.
Dramani also appreciated the effort and decision of the coach in following words: “You might be looking at one thing if you are an outsider, but the coach might be looking for certain things in a player.”
Ghana has been placed in Group D and will begin AFCON campaign on January 17 against Uganda, before matches against Mali and Egypt on January 21 and 25 respectively.
Currently, the Black Stars are involved in pre-tournament camping in the UAE. Black Stars have been the champions 4 times. The last time team won the title in 1982 and is striving hard to get it this year.
