ECG says for the improvement of its financial capability, it has decided continue its installation of more prepaid meters in other districts.
Electricity Company of Ghana has planned to install prepaid meters in the coming year in operational areas and in homes in the Eastern Region.
Engineer Michael Baah, the Eastern regional Manager of ECG said in an interview to the media, ECG management is funding to get more prepaid meters that would be replaced by the postpaid meters in the Eastern Region, as the district has not been yet covered by the new system.
More than 2/3rd ECG customers in the district have been changed to post paid system of metering, as before company was having so many problems regarding illegal connections. Illegal connections were highly affecting revenue of the company.
The Eastern Regional branch of the ECG through the Loss Control Unit (LCU) has get back GH¢ 351,307.51 from customers who were using illegal connections, from January to October this year.
ECG retrieved GH¢485,813.65 in 2015 through illegalities recorded.
During the process of replacing prepaid meters to the postpaid, Electricity Company of Ghana company faced resistance of the public and also attacks on its official offices.
