Charles ‘CK’ Akonnor the Former Ghana captain is confident about the victory of Black Stars at the AFCON 2017 and has expressed that the team will fight hard to annex the trophy.

Since 1982 the Black Stars haven’t won the title despite qualifying for the grand finale 3 times. In the year 1992 Ghana lost the title on penalties to Cote d’Ivoire and very same was the situation at the 2015 edition when the team lost to Egypt on penalties.
The Former Captain has expressed that the players need to strive hard for getting the gold in the tournament to be held in Gabon. He added that boys are both mentally and physically prepared for the upcoming event but still there is a lot to do before we can attain victory.
Akonnor said that last time Black Stars managed to reach close to the victory and this year it will certainly get the gold. The team has previously made to the semi-final at the five events and this time it will play in Group D along with Egypt, Uganda and Mali between 14th of January to 5th of the February 2017. Ghana has been champion for 4 times in the AFCON including the year 1963,1965,1978 and 1982 whilst Akonnor was the member of the AFCON squad in the years 1994,1996,1998 and 2000 championships.
