Most Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante
Most Rev Prof Emmanuel Asante, Chairman of the National Peace Council has said that the vacuum made by the Electoral Commission for the declaration of results threatens ill consequences for the peace of Ghana.
Speaking to journalists at a press conference, Rev Asante told that we want to request to EC that when they will create vacuum, it will take to all sorts of undesirable things.
We are not forcing EC to rush. But just want to say that undue delay increases possibility for suspicion in people’s mind.
It’s essential for the EC to expedite procedures. They should convey the public when they will start. It is only the EC that has the mandate to announce. Anybody who will try to do that is usurping the powers of the EC, he cautioned.
Meanwhile, the Council has requested supporters of the political parties to be calm. He also urged them to wait for the EC to release final results of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
At present, hundreds of NPP supporters have massed up at the Nima residence of the presidential aspirant, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. They are preparing to move to the EC headquarters to force the election management body to declare the results.
