Mrs Charlotte Osei, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) has said that Ghana’s electoral system is one of the best systems in the world. With the reforms and further systems implemented, the 2016 elections will be a complete success.
She made these remarks at a meeting for election observers at Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Friday, November 2.
According to her, the country’s voter’s register is fully biometric. So it is mandatory for all the fifteen million and everyone on the register to have at least six fingers along with other biographic detail. Every voter possesses a unique bar code that is activated for once used and cannot be used again.
According to media, the EC added that more security features had been included to the collation sheets to increase the integrity of the elections. She also revealed that the commission was almost completed the setup of constituency collation centers.
The commission has come under fire for disordered organization of the special voting. An exercise held for more than 127,000 people’s came from the security services, EC, the media and other areas that will be incapable to vote on December 7 because their services will be involved on voting day.
The commission has extended the last day of special voting exercise, with Sunday December 4 reserve for the exercise.
