Sheikh Mustapha Hamid, Spokesperson of Nana Akufo-Addo
The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for copying its Arabic language idea.
‘President of Ghana has agreed that Senior High School students will study Arabic like English from 2017’, The Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has commented on interacting with Muslim Community at Nsawam Zongo during his campaign tour.
But speaking to media Mustapha Hamid, Spokesperson for the Flag-bearer of the NPP wondered on NDC Arabic language idea that it is not their original idea but copied from NPP then how NDC would enforce the plan. We have this idea in our manifesto so it’s evident that after manifesto launch they thought about it.
NPP’s spokesperson is also raised doubts about the enforcement of program in 2017 by saying that they are going to implement teaching Arabic in JHS and SHS from next year but I am unable to understand that how they are going to do the recruitment and training of teachers because it is not their idea.
Some shareholders in the educational sector also raised questions that what is government motivation behind this move when Chinese and French languages can make examinable in schools. But Mr. Hamid defended the government by saying that there are more speakers of Arabic in comparison to French in Ghana.
Arabic is language of Islam that’s why thousand Muslim children study Arabic. It is also a subject at the University of Ghana. The students of languages are required to study it.
