NPP Policy Advisor, Boakye Agyarko
The largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has attacked ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) because the achievements mentioned in NDC’s manifesto in the area of education are not true and hence can’t be substantiated.
NPP Policy Director, Boakye Agyarko has expressed that Deputy Minister of Education, Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa denied all the alleged achievements by administration in the field, and has failed to prove them right.
Speaking on a press release yesterday, 23 September, he got very surprised that ‘unless obviously, this was an open lie and can’t be validated.’
An enquiry report generated by the Education department on Education Sector Performance of current year has shown that the ratio of ‘text-book to pupil’ in government schools has fallen down both at National and Deprived District levels since 2013-2014. It fell from 2.2 to 2.0 in 2013/14 and 2.0 to 1.7 in 2015/16 at the National level, and for Deprived District level it fell from 2.1 to 1.8 in 2013/14 to 1.6 in 2015/16.
He expressed that this failure will debunk the claim by NDC that ‘our country exceeded the ration of textbook to pupil, and it has provided three text-books to one student.’ He added that NDC has totally ignored the Education sector in the last few years.
