Flag bearer of the GCPP, Dr Henry Herbert Lartey
The 2012 Presidential Candidate and leader of the Great Consolidated Popular Party, Dr Henry Herbert Lartey has appreciated President John Mahama’s decision of pardoning Montie 3 and setting them free.
He described this act as an indication of ‘victory’ for the constitution of country because constitution has granted him this right.
On 27 July, the three convicts Godwin Ako Gunn, Alistair Nelson and Salifu Maase aka Mugabe were sentenced to four months in jail and fined Ghc 10,000 each by the Supreme Court after they allegedly threatened the life of chief justice and warned him that he will be murdered in a political talk show, on a radio station Montie.
However, President Mahama has granted remission to the three convicts after consulting with Council of State, who already served a month in prison.
Mahama came under heavy criticism from the opposition party’s member that he should not have pardoned Montie 3 and some referred him as a President for only NDC.
But talking on media news, Dr Henry has stated that Mahama has done nothing illegal or against any law by reducing the duration of four months to one as he is given this power by the constitution.
He said, ‘the president was right to acknowledge the exoneration on sympathetic grounds, by article 7(1d) of the 1992 constitution.’
