Professional writer and blogger, Dr Arthur Kobina Kennedy has responded to all the critics who are insulting President John Mahama over pardoning the three convicts Montie 3 who were sentenced to four months jail for threatening the lives of judges.
He said, if the Councils of State and court judges can be forgiving toward sentenced convicts, then President Mahama who has power under the 72 article of constitution to show leniency to detainees ought not to be condemned for showing kindness to the Montie three jailors.
Recently, President Mahama has remitted for the rest of the four-month sentence term given to three convicts Salifu Maase, Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako by the Ghana Supreme Court subsequent to serving one month in jail. The three are anticipated to be freed from prisons on Friday.
From the time President has announced to pardon the three convicts, critics, members and leaders of opposition party are criticizing government for this unfair decision and are accusing President for representing political convenience.
Many are in a view that this act of President Mahama has set an unnecessary precedent.
Nonetheless, Dr Arthur Kennedy stated in an article that despite the fact that he is against the abatement conceded the three; Mahama can’t be blamed for practicing his constitution right.
