The hip-life artist, Barima Sidney insists that Grand-papa ‘Reggie Rockstone’ is not the inventor of the Ghanaian musical style that rages Ghanaian culture and hip-hop, hip-life.
In August 2015, Sidney first made this disclosure, which had support from several industry players like Root Eye, Zapp Mallet and others who were around at the time when the category started.
This declaration did not go down well with the associate of VVIP who told them to stop acting like ladies over their words that he did not create ‘Hip-Life’.
The rapper said he still stands by his remarks that Rockstone is godfather of hip-life but not creator as he has made people trust.
He accused journalists for classifying him as the creator of hip-life but not Reggie walking around distributing the information.
He stated that:
‘It’s not Reggie saying that he is creator but it is the journalist.’
Further he added that before Reggie were Mahony Pee, Azigiza Jnr and others in the rap game but he had money to first release a hip-life album.
‘You had the chance to have money and record a complete album. We give you the godfather and respect you but people like Azigiza and Mahony Pee were there doing rap before you.’
