Government of Nigeria has reported 2 cases of polio – the country’s first in 2 years.
According to government 2 children had been paralyzed by the disease in the north-eastern Borno state, a part of Nigeria where Boko Haram activists are active.
The development is seen as a major delay for Nigeria, which was on track to be professed polio free in 2017.
Polio is a transferrable viral disease that usually affects small children. It can only be prohibited through immunization.
The disease is extent by poor sanitation and dirty water.
A United Nations immunization program in Nigeria has had to contend with rumors that the vaccine was a plot to sterilize Muslims.
