Ghanaian contemporary Gothic Classic and Afrobeats singer, Mercedes Haizel Cobbinah popularly known as Queen Haizel has expressed that she is a most versatile artist among all Ghanaian female singers, and no one can even come closer to her in terms of style, looks and eloquent voice.
She said, many times she tried to search for a single female singer, who is better than her but all her effort went in vain.
She repeated this on newspaper, “I have attempted innumerable times to spot even one female musician here in entire Ghana who matches up to me, yet I’ve seen none in this way. I’d say this a countless times, over and over again; my voice is different. I have got unique style and I am very proud to be a plus size. Others have no competition with me, I am not disgracing any of my fellow musician yet they ought not to be debilitated by my works.”
She said, ‘I see myself as a Queen, I can do any music genre but I think I can better do Afrobeats and Gothics, as far gothic is concerned, It is very scary but I want to introduce something new to Ghanaians who are sticking to same genres from years.’
The Gothic vocalist further specified that all females have a characteristic issue in living together with each other thus the contention between her associate female artists is nothing remarkable.
However, she suggested that for a better and flourishing music industry we all should be united, unity among artists is very important. She trusts it is about time musicians value each other’s qualities, and endure each other’s shortcoming for improving our music industry.
She added, “Most of these female musicians want to look like models. Plus sizes like me are therefore sidelined, but I’m here to curb this discrimination. God made us all talented, regardless of our stature. My role models are Adel and Asa, but I have plans of featuring Ghanaian female musicians on my forthcoming songs for unity sake.”
