Police in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi have publicized a controversial post-mortem report that cleared its officers blame of torturing a 22-year-old man to death.
According the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, Tuesday’s protests by the furious youth of the region who are arguing the post-mortem report would be give out with a big hand if it recurs.
Family and friends of the deceased 22-year-old, Osei Tawiah, made the protests and people of Nana Fodoo Kofrom blocked the roads on Tuesday and throw stones at police after the post-mortem report was made publically.
The report issued Monday, May 30. According the report, Tawiah died of heart failure but, no symptom was made about the reason of the deadly heart problem.
Though, DCOP Boakye criticized this allegation disagreeing that footballer who people know as fit also suffers from a like condition and it is common.
According the furious youth, the report clearing the officers, about 3 of them, is done a deal. Youth says that Osei Tawiah died at the custody of the policemen.
On Tuesday, May 31 mornings, the Police used tear gas to disappear the angry crowd.
“It is joking and it is rather pitiable that any well-meaning personality can make that bad suggestion that police planned with the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to shield officers on this occasion.
The victim was supposedly beaten to a pulp and tasered to death by the unknown policemen Thursday, May 26.
Three police officers allegedly hit Tawiah with the butt of their guns and tasseled him many times until he fell lifeless and later died.
But, the police have denied these eyewitness reports.
