Professor Ernest Aryeetey
Professor Ernest Aryeetey is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, who has stated into the challenging debate on the period of Senior High School Education in Ghana.
According to Professor Ernest Aryeetey, pupils take admission into the University after completing the 4-year education cycle in SHS performed far well than those who were educated under the 3-year system.
The report said that, there have been opinions whether or not government should bring back the 4-year educational period for Senior High Schools which was 1st introduced under the former Kufuor administration.
However, the NDC government has fixed to maintain the 3-year period in spite of some calls by some educationists in the state.
Moreover, National performance movements from 2006 to 2015 point out that the 4-year students done well while examination mismanagement continue throughout the period.
Addressing to the media on Wednesday with host Ellenruth on Ghana Live TV Prof. Aryeetey speak that pupils who stayed long time in senior high school have so far performed well in the university.
“I think I have collected from my coworkers and others that the longer pupils have stayed in school the better they are performed for the university.”
Prof. Aryeetey more added that “students who came to my university with 4-year education did better than those who came with 3 years.”
