Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with his wife and children
If the people of Agogo are demanding for Fulani to be discharged from Ghana, then they force as well be signifying the dismissal of Mrs Samira Bawumia, who is the General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia has expressed.
He said, Chief Jerry Forson to the media on Wednesday April 13 that the wife of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, 3-time running friend to the flagbearer of Ghana’s main opposition party, is also of Fulani taking out, and, thus, those calling for Fulani and their livestock (cattle) to be kicked out of the state may be doing Mrs. Bawumia a disfavor.
“If we say we are discharge all Fulanis from Ghana, do you understand Dr Bawumia’s wife is a Fulani?” General Mosquito, as Mr Asiedu Nketia is generally known questioned Chief Jerry Forson. “So, it is not about the kind of person you are. So, if you categories them Fulanis and request that they be dismissed, you’ll close up, maybe, sacking Dr Bawumia’s wife, also,” he said that “So, it’s not about the information that someone is a Fulani, it’s about the statistic that there is a fight between animal farmers and crop farmers, which should be resolved.”
Mr Asiedu Nketia’s remarks come a day after the people of Agogo, managed by their queen mother as well as MP for Asante Akyem North, Kojo Baah Agyemang, went on a nonviolent demonstration to request that all Fulanis and their cattle be fired from the area. They protested that the actions of the wanderers threaten their lives and occupation, since the herder’s murder, injure and rape their kith and kin, as well as end their farms.
He further added that, Mr Asiedu Nketia said that, “There’s no law that criminalizes cattle herding in Ghana. …It’s a problematic between animal farmers and crop farmers…we should find a permanent solution to the problem.
