Mr. James Lartey, the public relations officer for the Food and Drugs Authority has specified that advertising FDA regulatory product without the correct embossment on a letter by any Media house will be sanctioned.
The sanction includes not less than 10 years jail term, or fine of GHC 7,500, he stated.
Moreover, Mr. Lartey told that parliament has passed an LI which permits them to fine offenders an amount of GHC 25,000 or a combination of both penalties.
The operation has stared from a month in collaboration with police CID to correct wrong achievers; relaxed but then resumed, he described.
Furthermore, the officer stated that the law clearly states that “FDA regulated products are to be approved before advertisement”.
We have observed who only record an ad being aired without approval, and hand it over to the police CID to take it up and investigate it, Mr. Lartey added.
The Media Houses will be questioned and have to face prosecution who neglected the official letters by FDA and aired their ads without check, he said.
Mr. James Lartey told about the FDA’s fight against the media about airing unlicensed products, and caution media houses that it will charge them if they run advertisement on unlicensed products in a Media Interview.
