Gas supply from the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) to the Volta River Authority (VRA) will be cut by midnight today, Thursday, October 15, 2015, if the VRA neglects to pay a debt of US$103 million owed by the VRA to the organization.
The Managing Director of WAPCo, Mr Walter Perez, who made this known in Accra yesterday, said the decision took after a formal order from N-Gas, the organization that provides gas to the VRA, to WAPCo.
If the risk is done, it will mean an exacerbating of the power crisis at present confronting the nation.
Government is mindful
In opposition to the administration’s position that it was not conscious of the danger to cut the supply of gas to Ghana, Mr Perez said, we are sure those in positions of power in Ghana are completely conscious of this data and we are confident they are making the proper moves to counteract shortening.
Talking at a question and answer session, Mr Perez said WAPCo had drawn in the VRA, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the important services and even the most elevated amount of the legislature to find an answer for the circumstance before it came to crisis level.
Shockingly, these endeavors have not accomplished the sought result, he said with misgiving.
He said the administration of WAPCo was distinctly mindful of and delicate to the effect that the order from N-Gas to reduce the supply of gas could have on power generation in Ghana.

A Dialogue will proceed
