Ghana has planned to open up its own tourism industry for the visitor from different market like Turkey, to meet the 15 years tourism target of the country, the target of eight million tourists.
The main purpose of this tourism target is to increase the number of tourists in Ghana, currently the number of tourists is one million in Ghana and it will be eight million by 2027 according to the target.
Special Events Manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) Mr Benjamin Anane-Nsiah has told in an interview at 84th Izmir International Fair, that Turkey did not have any relation with the country that’s why it is necessary for Ghana to provide opportunities to Turkey to attract the tourists of that country.
He said it is very necessary for Ghana to discover new markets in the country aside the established markets, like America, UK, Nigeria, Norway and France.
He said we need to attract many tourists into our country from wherever they are coming from. We have linkages with United Kingdom and America but we have not established any linkages with Turkey so we have to create awareness about Ghana and attract the tourists from Turkey.
But we have to face a big challenge of language barrier as both of the countries have different languages and there is no historic relation between both countries. He said.
But the situation is improving with the help of Ghanaian student studying in Turkish universities as well as Turkish companies working in Ghana.
The country is expecting to receive 1.45 million tourists by the year of 2017 and 2.45 million by 2022 as well as 4.32 million of tourists by 2027, under the 15 year tourism plan.
Speedy review of the SEC’s regulations is needed
