KNUST, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s lecturer is calling for the renovation of the teacher education curriculum in the country.
Osei Boahin, Head of Integrated Art and Rural Industry Department in KNUST says what pertains currently does not encourage renovation among trainees.
Osei Boahin noted the inflexibility of the teacher trainee curriculum is affecting their delivery in the classroom as teachers.
He noted that these people are going to undertake higher responsibilities after the school; managers must say and in this situation in the classroom. The present curriculum trainee students in a specific jacket line with no freedom to explore and find solutions to problems, the curriculum must be reviewed.
KNUST lecturer is urging the GES, Ghana Education Service to involve must research activities in the teacher trainees curriculum.
The lecturer spoke to a news channel, at the Annual Delegates’ congress of the Teacher Trainees Association in Kumsi, this program was on the theme, “Tertiarization of the Colleges of Education; A Reality or Mirage”.
Osei Boahin believes that the Education Ministry must focus on providing all the essential structures to raise all teacher training institutes into tertiary status.
Teacher trainees, meanwhile, are asking government to treat them differently, as it treats other tertiary students by reinstating their allowances.
