A central laboratory is launched in Accra on Wednesday whose purpose would be to promote fairness in petroleum products quality.
This authority was created under the act (LI 2187) which gives permission for the implementation of Petroleum Products Marking Scheme (PPMS).
PPMS started its working since two years ago. Its main purpose s to ensure the quality of petroleum products before it reaches to the end customer, promote competition in petroleum business and also increase the tax and revenue for the country.
The concept of marking the petroleum products is to introduce the petrol market in the petroleum products before it goes to the retail outlets.
At the launch of PPMS the chief executive of the national petroleum authority told that in 2013 more than 32% violation cases appeared on various retail outlets at different places in the country.
He also stated that now there is a great achievement by controlling on the violation of these things, so he praised various stakeholders on this great achievement.
He also said that the statics showed that now the quality of petroleum products is better than it was before launching the PPMS. More he said that the quality of petroleum in Ghana is finest among neighboring countries.
Mr Frank Kofi, the acting Executive Director of Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) said that the mission of this program is to standardize the quality of petroleum everywhere in the country.
He also explained that the basic concept behind this scheme was to enable GSA and NPA to take control over not only on the quality but also recover the tax revenue and also to reduce petroleum products smuggling.
